The Association of External Public Auditors, registered as a legal person by Decision No. 7787 dated 2 July 2026 of the Tirana Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, has officially begun its institutional engagement to promote and strengthen external public auditing in the Republic of Albania.
In the context of starting its activity, the Association has sent information letters and expressions of interest in cooperation to several key institutions and actors in auditing, public finance and policymaking, including the Delegation of the European Union to Tirana; the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania; the Committee on Economy, Employment and Finance; the Committee on Citizens’ Initiatives, Cooperation and Institutional Oversight; the Subcommittee on Public Sector Audit; and the Chair of the Supreme Audit Institution (KLSH).
Through these communications, the Association has presented its mission, objectives and field of activity, expressing readiness to build institutional and professional cooperation and to contribute constructively to the development of external public auditing in Albania.
An important step in this direction is also the expression of interest in joining the Public Register of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Interest Groups at the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, with the aim of active participation in public consultation processes and parliamentary activity, in line with the Association’s field of activity.
The Association of External Public Auditors aims to contribute professionally and independently to:
- strengthening the professional, ethical and methodological capacities of external public auditors;
- reinforcing professional standards and integrity in auditing;
- promoting transparency and accountability in the use of public funds;
- strengthening the role, independence and professional status of external public-sector auditors;
- improving the legal framework and practices in external public auditing;
- fostering professional dialogue among auditors, public institutions, academia and other relevant actors;
- organising training, conferences, professional roundtables and academic activities, and supporting processes that contribute to good governance, transparency and responsible use of public finances.
The Association considers that developing a sustained dialogue among audit professionals, public institutions, the Assembly, international partners and the academic community is an important element for strengthening the public audit system and democratic institutions.
The Association of External Public Auditors affirms its commitment to being a professional, constructive and responsible partner in every process related to the development of external public auditing, the strengthening of professional integrity, and transparency and accountability in the administration of public finances.
This is only the beginning of an institutional engagement that aims to bring the professional expertise of external public auditors to the fore and to create new space for dialogue, cooperation and contribution in the public interest.
